Foreign Minister Winston Peters has announced a "do not travel" guideline - the first time it has been done in New Zealand.

"We are raising our travel advice to the highest level: do not travel," Mr Peters said.

Test results for 150 students of Dunedin's Logan Park High School have all come back negative, as New Zealand counts 28 coronavirus cases. 

The Ministry of Health confirmed all the students were cleared of Covid-19 on Thursday afternoon, after coming into contact with a confirmed case earlier in the week.

OPINION: So you may have noticed I've been absent for a while. I was travelling over Christmas with my family, and since I've been back I've been working super hard. But then this whole Covid-19 thing started to break.

I'll be honest, my first response five weeks ago was that people were panicking unduly, what with all the initial panic-buying of toilet paper and outbreaks of racism.

While the idea of self-isolation is new for most of us, one Marlborough man remembers being in quarantine more than 75 years ago, during the polio epidemic. 

Even in the southern-most point of the South Island, self-isolation measures were used in the 1940s to protect people from the threat of polio.
