By 2025, you won’t be able to hook up your house or building to the natural gas network, if the Government follows draft advice from the Climate Change Commission. Despite being just one of more than 100 recommendations, it caught a lot of attention. Mike Hosking called it “stupid”. Chef Martin Bosley said it would open “the most unbelievable can of worms” for cafes and restaurants.
The commission’s draft advice will be finalised in May, then the Government must decide whether it wants to adopt it.

People who sell properties (excluding investment new builds and family homes) within ten years will be required to pay tax on gains they make.
Among a range of measures to curb property speculation and support first-home buyers, the Government announced on Tuesday it intends to double the bright-line test from five to ten years.

Property investors say it could be renters who end up the big losers following the announcement of the Government's new housing package.
It was announced on Tuesday that the Government is cracking down on property investors to help first-home buyers get a foot in the door by assisting with deposits and expanding the property investment tax, as well as injecting billions to boost supply.

The United States, United Kingdom, Canada and European Union have all announced fresh sanctions again Chinese officials for human rights abuses in Xinjiang. It's prompted Beijing to respond in kind, blacklisting several Europeans.
Unlike the United States, the EU has sought to avoid confrontation with Beijing, but a decision to impose the first significant sanctions since an EU arms embargo in 1989 has inflamed tensions.
