Leading Epidemiologist Professor Rod Jackson says Kiwis should prepare for another year of messiness and uncertainty.
He says, “next year is going to be messy, it’s going to be uncertain. I mean everyone wants certainty, but viruses don’t play by any rules. We really don’t know. The best way to be prepared, is to be prepared for uncertainty.”

ANALYSIS: At 4pm on Monday, the Government will lay out what life will look like when the traffic light system, officially known as the Covid-19 Protection Framework, begins on Friday.
The key decision will be which parts of the country are at the ‘orange’ light setting and which are at ‘red’. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has previously said that no region will be going into ‘green’ but that on Monday we will learn what the circumstances will be for that to occur.

Starting in 2017, China carried out a sweeping crackdown in its northwest Xinjiang region under the banner of counterterrorism. It was a harsh campaign to forcibly assimilate the
Uyghur population, a mostly Muslim ethnic minority group native to Xinjiang. Scholars estimate that Chinese authorities detained more than 1 million Uyghurs in centres and re-education camps for periods ranging from weeks to years. The abuses drew international condemnation, including accusations of genocide and a sweeping US ban on some imports from Xinjiang.
