The New Zealand Government's accusation that "Chinese state-sponsored actors" are behind "malicious cyber activity" in Aotearoa is "groundless and irresponsible", according to the Chinese Embassy in Wellington.
In a coordinated condemnation of China overnight, New Zealand, the United States, the UK, Australia and other international partners said a Chinese state-sponsored entity called Advanced Persistent Threat 40 (APT 40) is linked to malicious activity in New Zealand and around the world.

Today's multi-country condemnation of cyber-attacks by Chinese state-sponsored agencies was a sign of increasing frustration at recent behaviour. But it also masks the real problem - international law isn't strong or coherent enough to deal with this growing threat.
The coordinated announcement by several countries, including the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand, echoes the most recent threat assessment from the US intelligence community: cyber threats from nation states and their surrogates will remain acute for the foreseeable future.

Rocket Lab says it has concluded an extensive review into the cause of a failed mission launch on May 15 from its facility on Māhia Peninsula.
The root cause of the issue that resulted in the loss of “Running Out Of Toes” had been identified and corrective measures were now in place, the company said in a statement.

New Zealand has joined an “unprecedented” group of United States allies across the globe blaming China for cyberattacks and exposing government connections to criminal contract hackers.
On Monday night New Zealand’s spy agency minister confirmed Chinese state-sponsored actors were responsible for “malicious cyber activity” in the country – including a massive Microsoft Exchange hack earlier this year.

Russian aircraft makers say they will present a prospective new fighter jet at a Moscow air show.
The new warplane hidden under tarpaulin was photographed being towed to a parking spot across an airfield in Zhukovsky, outside Moscow, where the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon opens Tuesday. Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit the show's opening.

The Asia-Pacific trade group APEC met overnight yesterday, an extraordinary two-hour summit of world leaders chaired by Jacinda Ardern and attended by 21 heads of state.
But after China confirmed on Thursday he would be there, President Xi Jinping actually beamed in with pre-recorded remarks. This is in contrast to US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stayed on for the entire two-and-a-half-hour call.

An Auckland man who was employed by an aquatic pet store for six years was dismissed with a two-sentence email and left his position with 41 days of unused annual leave - which he was not compensated for upon his redundancy.
The man, Mr Foster, was employed by Aquaworld Ltd - an aquarium shop on Auckland's North Shore - from March 12, 2014 to August 10, 2020. He began working as a junior aquarist on a casual basis before taking on a full-time role, which was eventually terminated for redundancy in July 2020.
