China approved a contentious national security law for Hong Kong that takes direct aim at some of the actions of anti-government protesters last year.
It is a move many see as Beijing's toughest yet to erase the legal firewall between the semi-autonomous territory and the mainland's authoritarian Communist Party system.

Applications to join the military have shot up as Kiwis stare down the barrel of a bleak job market.
Between March and May, as coronavirus took hold in New Zealand and forced a nationwide lockdown, applications to join the NZ Defence Force (NZDF) rose by 400 compared to the same period last year - an increase of 21 per cent.

Enfield, UK, 29 June 2020 – HENSOLDT UK have completed the delivery of a fully type approved Kelvin Hughes Integrated Naval Bridge System (INBS) for Polar-class logistic ship HMNZS Aotearoa. At 26,000 tons this is one of the largest ever vessel built for the Royal New Zealand Navy and was recently delivered by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

A plan to launch Pukaki's remote airport into the rocket age has not gone down well with some operators at the airfield, with one labelling it "totally unacceptable".
Dawn Aerospace, a Kiwi-Dutch company developing unmanned, reusable rockets as a more economic and sustainable way of launching things like satellites into space, is planning to use the Mackenzie District airport for trial launches possibly as early as July.
