You have two hours to move within 200 metres of the observers and fire your first blank round. You start about one kilometre out, give or take. You cannot be seen at all. If you are seen, you fail.
Each year only 12 soldiers devote six weeks of their lives honing skills which they hope will match the exacting standards required to emerge out the other side as a badged sniper of New Zealand Army. Historically less than half make the grade. In 2020 just six passed.

Organisers of a youth climate change rally set for later this month say they have plans to reignite their movement this year.
The group School Strike 4 Climate NZ, the organisers of a series of marches across New Zealand in 2019, are holding what they call an intergenerational protest outside Parliament on January 26.

he end may be nigh for Britain, with the death of the Tower of London's 'Queen' raven meaning the battlement is now close to having fewer than six of the birds, a sign of potential doom for the kingdom according to ancient legend.
Merlina, considered the "Queen of the Tower Ravens" and the "undisputed ruler of the roost" is presumed dead, having not been seen for weeks. With Merlina gone, the tower now has seven ravens.

China has reported the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases in more than 10 months due to a severe outbreak in the northeast that has put more than 28 million people under lockdown.
A total of 144 new COVID-19 cases were reported on January 14, the National Health Commission said on Friday, up from 138 cases a day earlier and marking the highest daily increase since 202 cases reported on March 1.
