The man accused of the Christchurch mosque attacks has entered shock guilty pleas.
Amid extraordinary coronavirus lockdown restrictions, Brenton Tarrant, 29, appeared via video-link in the High Court at Christchurch on Thursday morning and admitted 51 charges of murder, 40 charges of attempted murder and a charge of engaging in a terrorist act.

So... social distancing, lockdown, quarantine, all because we are all treating each other like a disease-ridden zombies. Sounds rough but if you treat everyone else like they have COVID-19 and they are treating you like you have it, then it is an easy mindset to keep your distance.

Scammers were already hitting the streets ahead of the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.
New Zealand moved to alert level 4 on Wednesday night, meaning non-essential businesses must be shut, people must stay indoors and travel is severely limited. There will be an increased police presence in the community to educate people about the new rules as well as to disrupt any gatherings taking place. Officers will also be on the lookout for anyone trying to take advantage of the lockdown for looting.

As New Zealand moves into Alert level 4 to fight COVID-19 outbreak, the first time in New Zealand's history that only essential business will be operating and our borders are closed. This is going to last for a month at least. It is going to tough, it is going to be trying times and uncertainty for many. Some people will have no job to go back to some business may not be able to re-start.

A New Zealand-based Virgin Australia flight attendant made a tearful farewell in an onboard announcement on her final flight.
In a statement last week the airline said it was looking to close its New Zealand crew bases amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, Air New Zealand has cut 95 per cent of international flights.

The Prime Minister has urged New Zealanders to stay at home as much as possible to slow the spread of coronavirus, even before the country enters a full lockdown at midnight on Wednesday.
But based on how some people blatantly refused to comply with previous isolation and social distancing advice, it's unlikely that everyone will follow the rules.
