From being able to follow your customs, practice your religion, speak your own language and not be put in a re-education camp? The Tibetans must feel do indebted to the Chinese Communist Party for saving it from that awful fate.

Immunologist Graham Le Gros says New Zealand should be bringing in AstraZeneca vaccines if the Pfizer vaccine supply is running short, and there should be a drive to get as many people with one vaccination shot as soon as possible.
The Government may have to manage demand for the COVID-19 vaccine after a rush to get the jab following the latest outbreak.

South African scientists have detected a new coronavirus variant with multiple mutations but are yet to establish whether it is more contagious or able to overcome the immunity provided by vaccines or prior infection.
The new variant, known as C.1.2, was first detected in May and has now spread to most South African provinces and to seven other countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania, according to research which is yet to be peer-reviewed.

China has forbidden under-18s from playing video games for more than three hours a week, a stringent social intervention that it said was needed to pull the plug on a growing addiction to what it once described as "spiritual opium".
The new rules, published on Monday, are part of a major shift by Beijing to strengthen control over its society and key sectors of its economy, including tech, education and property, after years of runaway growth.

Kiwi military personnel deployed away from home as part of the Covid-19 response have been banned from travelling back home during lockdown.
The bad news for out-of-town troops deployed to managed isolation hotels as part of Operation Protection, Defence Force’s contribution to the Covid response, came in a message to personnel from Colonel Stefan Michie, 1 (NZ) Brigade Commander.

The Government is possibly running out of vaccines in September and it could be their own fault.
In May Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins told Newstalk ZB that Pfizer had confirmed that New Zealand would receive 8 million doses in the third quarter, saying “we will get them all by the end of September.”

Some employers are underpaying their workers and First Union says it's expecting to see that continue as lockdown rolls on in Auckland and Northland.
Eyewear company OPSM/Luxottica is paying New Zealand staff 80 per cent of their normal rate of pay. In an email a spokesperson told 1 NEWS that employees are the companies' “most important asset” and the pay reduction is “consistent with previous long-term lockdowns”.
