No new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the community in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health has announced.

On Sunday, it was announced that three members of a South Auckland family had tested positive for COVID-19. It remains unclear how the initial case, Case A - who works in the laundry department at the Auckland Airport branch of LSG Sky Chefs - contracted the virus.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has given her assurance the government will consider helping businesses should Auckland's three -day level 3 lockdown be extended, Mayor Phil Goff says.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced last night Auckland would move to alert level 3 from 11.59pm on Sunday while the rest of the country would move to level 2.

There are three new cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand after members in the same family tested positive.

The mother and daughter returned positive test results on Saturday night with relatively low CT values, the Ministry of Health says, which indicates they are new and active infections. The father returned his positive result on Sunday morning. Genome sequencing is underway.

China has shot a clear warning at human rights groups rallying for countries to boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics over human rights complaints.

Editor of China's propaganda mouthpiece The Global Times Hu Xijin warned that the government would "seriously sanction any country" that makes a statement against the superpower by refusing to send athletes to Beijing.

On Sunday the Ministry of Health (MoH) revealed three new cases - a mother, father, and daughter from the same household in Papatoetoe.

New Zealand will receive its first batch of COVID-19 vaccines next week, with frontline border workers first in the queue.

Their household contacts are next in line, followed by healthcare workers, essential workers and those in groups at risk of serious illness or death. The rest of us will get ours later in the year.
