This week's announcement of two new COVID-19 vaccine pre-purchase deals is encouraging, but doesn't mean New Zealanders should become complacent about using the NZ COVID Tracer app during the summer holidays.

The immunisation rollout won't start until the second quarter of 2021, and the government is encouraging New Zealanders to continue using the app, including the recently upgraded bluetooth function, as part of its plan to manage the pandemic during the holiday period.

Chinese state media has taken aim at Nanaia Mahuta for suggesting New Zealand could arbitrate a conversation between feuding China and Australia, while also accusing Jacinda Ardern of "arrogance and duplicity".

The Global Times, a Chinese state media outlet, has printed an article by Qian Feng, the director of Tsinghua University's National strategy Institute research Department, about New Zealand's reported willingness to act as a mediator between China and Australia.

The Government will purchase the land at Ihumātao for $29.9 million, Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson has confirmed, in a deal signed off by the Kīngitanga, the Crown and Auckland Council. 

"I want to thank all the parties involved for working together to come to this agreement," Robertson said on Thursday, following more than a year of negotiations over how to settle the land dispute.

Rocket Lab has made its 15th successful commercial launch, putting a Japanese company's radar satellite into orbit on Tuesday night.

The flight, dubbed 'The Owl's Night Begins', took off in clear weather from Mahia Peninsula just after 11pm.

New Zealand's gross domestic product (GDP) rose 14 percent in the September quarter, bouncing back from the June quarter's historic 12.2 percent fall.

The resurgence was widely predicted, with most of the country free of coronavirus restrictions in July, August and September; but impacted by the August outbreak in Auckland.

Boeing has recently received a $109 million US Navy contract to provide P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft training for the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF).

New Zealand is buying four submarine hunters under a March 2020 contract with the US Navy. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2023.

Boeing has been recently awarded a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract, valued at $109 million, by the U.S. Navy to provide P-8A Poseidon training for the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF).

A suite of training systems and courseware will prepare RNZAF aircrew and maintainers to safely and effectively operate and maintain the maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft for decades to come.
