One person has died after the car they were driving crashed into a tree near a Bay of Plenty township.
Emergency services were called to Dun Rd, near Kaingaroa Village, around 9.25am on Sunday.
The area is about 35 minutes southeast of Rotorua.
The person who died was the only one in the vehicle, a police statement said.

Dun Rd was down to one lane while the Serious Crash Unit examined the scene, and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
