The Government has ended its effort to evacuate New Zealand citizens, their families, and Afghan allies from Afghanistan after a terror attack at Kabul’s international airport.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern Friday morning announced the last flight of a Defence Force Hercules into Kabul was completed on Thursday, prior to the attack.

Jacinda Ardern has condemned the "despicable attack" on Kabul airport in Afghanistan and confirmed the final Defence Force evacuee flight has landed safely in the UAE.
At least 90 Afghans are dead and more than 140 wounded after a terrorist attack by ISIS at Kabul's airport overnight. The US Central Command confirmed 12 US troops were killed and 15 were injured.

At least 90 Afghan civilians and 12 members of the US military have been killed in twin suicide bombings at Kabul's international airport as foreign evacuation efforts continue.
The attack comes just a day after Western nations - including New Zealand - advised citizens and visa holders on the ground to avoid Hamid Karzai International Airport due to terrorism threats. The site has become the centre point of tensions in Afghanistan, with thousands of people flocking to it with hopes of getting on an evacuation aircraft out of the country, which recently fell to the Taliban.

There were at least two explosions near Kabul's airport amid a huge and chaotic evacuation effort from Afghanistan on Thursday, the Pentagon said, with civilians and US service members among the casualties of what was described as a "complex attack".
US officials said they were concerned that further attacks could occur at the airport following the twin blasts, which health officials have said killed at least 60 people. The Taliban earlier said at least 13 were dead, including children.
