South Korea became the latest nation to express interest in joining an Asia-Pacific trade deal, with the trade minister saying the government is “seriously and actively considering” the issue.
Korea’s overture comes after China and Taiwan submitted formal requests in recent weeks to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, or CPTPP, a free-trade pact between 11 countries around the Pacific Rim.

The deal - agreed to in principle, with the hope of concluding final negotiations by next year - was announced this morning.
It would eliminate tariffs on all UK goods into New Zealand, and tariffs on about 63 percent of goods currently exported to the country. Sheep meat and beef would be subject to tariffs but have a quota - increasing each year - for duty-free exports until the 15th year of the agreement, while butter and cheese would have tariffs reduced until the sixth year.

China's new maritime law – in which foreign vessels will have to submit details to Chinese authorities when transiting through its 'territorial waters' – has now come into force.
In a classic manoeuvre of what is called “lawfare”, China announced a new set of maritime regulations last week that require ships carrying certain types of cargo to provide detailed information to the Chinese authorities when transiting through Chinese “territorial waters”.
