ACT leader David Seymour says today’s declaration of a climate emergency was a sign that “feelings rather than facts” is driving the Government’s response to climate change.

Parliament is urgently debating a bill that will make law a new top tax rate of 39 per cent – one of Labour’s key campaign promises.
The tax hike will only apply to the top 2 per cent of income earners.
But a regulatory impact assessment from IRD has said that the tax will only have a tiny impact on inequality in New Zealand.

The Prime Minister has declared a 'climate emergency' to recognise the 'devastating impact' extreme weather will have on New Zealand, and the 'alarming' loss of species.
But while most industrial countries have reduced emissions in the last decades, New Zealand has seen some of the biggest increases in greenhouse gases. Nearly half of New Zealand's emissions come from agriculture, followed by energy - mostly transport.

Almost half of New Zealand's coronavirus-related deaths were patients that had no other known health conditions, according to the Ministry of Health.
Twenty-five people have died from the virus so far. In 14 of these fatalities the people had underlying conditions, but the other 11 didn't have known health problems.

ANALYSIS: With tension escalating between China and members of the Five Eyes security alliance, most recently over a Chinese tweet that used a doctored image to attack Australia, New Zealand is arguably in a prime position to broker a kind of truce.
Someone needs to take the initiative. Right now, things are deteriorating, as the trade stand-off with Australia demonstrates.

After almost three years away in Canada, HMNZS Te Kaha departed for home yesterday after completing a significant frigate upgrade that has futureproofed her surveillance and combat systems. Rear Admiral Bob Auchterlonie, Commander Canadian Maritime Forces Pacific, farewelled HMNZS Te Kaha and her crew as she sailed out of Esquimalt Harbour.
