Mortgage borrowers should be prepared for interest rates to go slightly higher over the next couple of years, a bank economist says.
Interest rates are already at record lows and economists don't expect interest rates to drop further. In ASB's February quarterly economic forecast, the bank forecast interest rates to start rising in August 2022.

Several Dr Seuss books that were pulled from further publication over their "racist imagery" are selling for hundreds of dollars on Trade Me.
Dr Seuss Enterprises, which represents the late author and illustrator, made the announcement earlier in March to discontinue some titles. The stories were pulled from print because of the way characters of Asian and African ethnicity are depicted.

A soldier who shared a photo of himself taking acid will go to military prison for two years and has been dismissed from service.
At a court martial in Linton on Monday, Signaller Braedan Francis Onehi, 23, faced multiple charges of supplying, offering to supply and consuming LSD in Linton Military Camp in 2019 between May and August.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says New Zealand will continue to raise concern with China over its treatment of the Uighur people in Xinjiang, describing how Aotearoa deals with the issue as "entirely predictable".

A high-profile radio host has resigned from a MediaWorks radio show, effective immediately, staff were told on Monday.
The host, who had not been on air since mid-March, was one of two men stood down this month ahead of an independent investigation into the news and radio company's culture, sources within the company say.

Citizens and permanent residents intending to return to New Zealand are reportedly able to obtain fake certificates claiming they have tested negative for COVID-19 to ensure they can enter the country.
In accordance with the Government's pre-departure testing rule, prospective returnees are required to present a report certifying they have tested negative for the virus within the 72 hours prior to their flight.
