Bottled water might taste nicer than tap water, but the cost to the environment is so great it's not worth using it exclusively, a new study has found.
The environmental impact of extracting it would be 1400 times worse, researchers at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health said, and cost 3500 times more.

Taliban fighters overran three provincial capitals including the strategic northeastern city of Kunduz on Sunday, local officials said, as the insurgents intensified pressure on the north and threatened further cities.
The insurgents have taken dozens of districts and border crossings in recent months and put pressure on several provincial capitals, including Herat in the west and Kandahar in the south, as foreign troops withdraw. The offensive has gathered momentum in recent days after the US announced it would end its military mission in the country by the end of August.

A public health expert says the highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19 could prompt a local lockdown with even one community case in New Zealand.
Otago University Professor Nick Wilson said of the 25 COVID-19 cases currently in managed isolation and quarantine, "most" are likely Delta.

SAN FRANCISCO – LeoLabs and the New Zealand Space Agency (NZSA) are working together to develop a cloud-based software platform for monitoring space activity. New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment announced the multiyear deal Aug. 5, saying it would lead to “the world’s most advanced Space Regulatory and Sustainability Platform.”

Military assets in the Pacific are increasing, ostensibly in an effort to help curb one of the region’s biggest challenges: illegal fishing.
