Kiwis have spent the start of the working week with hot weather yet again hitting much of the country. Hawke's Bay had temperatures in the late 20s, while many North Island areas are expected to remain in the mid-20s for the coming days.
But like Sunday, it was Kawerau who took the top temperature again on Monday with 32.5C, according to MetService.
WeatherWatch says a "large anticyclone" was behind Monday's settled and hot weather. It is however expected to cool down in the South Island in the coming days, with a cold front arriving on Wednesday and Thursday.

Don't worry, though, it will be short-lived. MetService says temperatures will rise again on Fridays as northwesterlies develop.
"Overall, we are expecting warm, fine weather for the North Island, until showers develop on Friday for northern and western areas," MetService meteorologist Claire Nickson said.

The South Island can expect periods of wet weather in the west, while in the east, we can expect scattered rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, then mainly fine and warm temperatures and strengthening northwesterly winds to end the week."
