One person is seriously injured after a driver crashed their car into a retirement home in Christchurch.

Emergency services were called to the crash at George Manning Lifecare on Hennessy Pl, in Spreydon, about 6.20pm on Sunday.

A police spokeswoman said the injured person was inside the building when the car crashed into the home.

The person suffered serious injuries and had been taken to hospital. A St John spokeswoman said another person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
