It might not be the end of the Whenuapai air force base saga.

Defence Minister Ron Mark's used a last resort power to over-ride an Environment Court ruling for the purposes of national security.

The Court had ruled in favour of Neil Construction, saying the Air Force should stop the loud night time engine testing disturbing neighbours.

Mark told Heather du Plessis-Allan Neil Construction can appeal his move, but hopes it doesn't.

"I'm very confident in our position. I simply ask that they pause and reflect the overwhelming majority of people who live close to Whenupai support the Air Force."

Upper Harbour Board member Margaret Miles says the noise isn't new, and anyone moving in knows the airbase is there.

"They really should have done their homework to see what the impacts of the air base could have potentially had on their lifestyle."
