A 33-year-old man has been remanded in custody after explosive devices were found at a Christchurch property on Tuesday.

Jay Harding Reriti appeared via video link in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday and faces six charges including possessing a handheld improvised explosive device, another improvised explosive device (IED) with a detonator chord, possession of an explosive and a detonator, two knives, a credit card knife and 45 rounds of ammunition for a 22 calibre rifle.



Emergency services were called to the property on Newcastle St, Philipstown on Tuesday afternoon whem a package containing the devices and ammunition were found.

Canterbury District Commander Superintendent John Price said the New Zealand Defence Force explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team rendered the package safe.

Reriti entered no plea and was remanded in custody until May 6.
