Advance NZ party leader Billy Te Kahika has been met by police in Dunedin after he refused to wear a face mask properly on a flight from Wellington.

He posted a photo of himself on Facebook after landing saying: "I'm being tested for my beliefs. I was asked to pull this mask over my nose to breath my own air again. I said no. I may be arrested for it...we shall see. Thank you Air NZ."

I may be arrested for not pulling this mask over my nose...just landed. Let's see...standby. Thank you Air NZ...

In a live video he said Air New Zealand staff asked him to comply with mask-rules three times - but he refused.

"I can confirm that a customer on flight NZ5681 was met by police on arrival into Dunedin today in response to a refusal to comply with crew instructions with regard to face coverings," Air New Zealand general manager customer Liz Fraser told Newshub.

"While Auckland remains at alert level 2, Air New Zealand requires all passengers on its domestic flights to wear a face-covering to protect our customers and staff. To date customers have been overwhelmingly supportive of this requirement and we thank them for this."

The party leader is known for labelling the COVID-19 pandemic a "PLAN-demic" and calling for the end of lockdowns.

Note from Nighthawk.NZ:

Technically the flight has the right to make you wear a mask whether there is CoVid-19 or not... you are on their plane and it is their safety rules that you agreed to follow when you bought the ticket.
