The Ministry of Health has announced there are 14 new cases of coronavirus in New Zealand.

There are now 67 confirmed cases in total.

The Ministry of Health's Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield has been giving regular updates on the coronavirus operation.

Five cases were in Auckland, 1 case in Northland, 1 in Canterbury, 2 in New Plymouth, 2 in Waikato, 1 in Tauranga, 1 in Coromandel, and 1 in Dunedin.

Director-general of health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said 11 of the new cases had history of international travel.

1200 lab tests were completed on Saturday, bringing total number of tests carried out to over 6000.

The two cases of possible community transmission on Saturday were still possible cases of community transmission because connection to international travel had not been able to be found.

In both of those cases authorities were still investigating. Bloomfield was asking everyone in Auckland and Carterton, Wairarapa to continue following health advice.

Hereford Cattle conference in Queenstown was being treated as an event where there was close contact with Covid-19.

Four attendees at the conference had since tested positive, although only two of them were Kiwis - the others were Australian and Uruguayan.

The Covid-19 alert remained at level 2.

The Ministry of health is to provide coronavirus update on new cases in New Zealand.

Bloomfield gave a message to people over 70: "We know many of you are fit and healthy and live active lives, but we have seen from overseas that older people are at serious risk of complications so we are strongly urging you to stay at home".

Bloomfield asked any passengers on two cruise ships which had cases of coronavirus to self isolate for 14 days since their last contact with other passengers on the ship.

EARLIER CASES

On Saturday, it revealed there were 13 new cases of coronavirus in New Zealand in the 24 hours between Friday and Saturday.

Bloomfield earlier said the 13 cases were spread across four cases in Wellington, three in Auckland, one in Waikato, one in Taranaki, one in Manawatū, and one in Taupō.

There was one case in Nelson and one in Marlborough.

Shortly after, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern unveiled a four-stage threat plan to tackle the virus. She urged people to take Covid-19 seriously.

"Think about your grandparents, think about someone in your family group or your friendship group that might have compromised immunity.

"It's not about whether or not you're worried about yourself. It's that you should be worried for those around you, so please take it seriously. This is about saving lives," she said.
