People are being told there's no need to stockpile food because of Covid-19.

Foodstuffs North Island chief executive Chris Quin told Mike Hosking shopping spiked again after new border restrictions were brought in over the weekend.

He thinks it's because people are afraid they'll be isolated in their homes without warning.

However, Quin says New Zealand's food supply system is extremely robust because we produce food and have very good distribution in supermarkets.

"People shouldn't have to carry more than a day or two's worth of items in their homes, because they are only a short time away from arranging an online delivery or getting a friend to drop something else."
